Premier League. Report and free highlights as Heung-Min Son and Giovani Lo Celso goals give Spurs statement victory; Manchester City dominate shots and ball but cannot break down stubborn Jose Mourinho approach; Spurs sit atop the Premier League for 24 hours at least, City sit 10th with just 12 points.
New Premier League leaders Tottenham made a big title statement as a vintage Jose Mourinho operation saw them beat Manchester City Spurs had just 33 per cent possession and four shots to City's 22, but once again came away with victory against Pep Guardiola's City in a clinical smash-and-grab show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
During a lively opening, Spurs took the lead as Son tucked under Ederson from the edge of the box after Tanguy Ndombele's chipped pass caught out a high City line 5.
It was Spurs' only shot on goal in the first 59 minutes as Mourinho's side soaked up City pressure. Despite some City half-chances either side of the break, Mourinho's approach continued to work as they snatched a second, man-of-the-match Harry Kane turning brilliantly on halfway and feeding Giovani Lo Celso to finish under Ederson again just 35 seconds after coming on City were ragged thereon as Spurs closed out victory, and the result means Mourinho, celebrating one year at Spurs, sees his side sit atop the Premier League for 24 hours at least.
City's poor start continues, sitting 10th with just 12 points from eight games. Both Mourinho and Guardiola have been critics of the international schedule - Mourinho even posted a sarcastic comment on Instagram about the safety of players on duty - while Guardiola left Raheem Sterling on the bench after only "one day's training".
Mourinho, who has a long and fierce history with Guardiola, could not resist a dig at City and Sterling, saying before kick-off: "We are not as ready as Sterling, he was resting the whole week" after the England man pulled out of international duty with a calf injury.
But Mourinho was one-up on the pitch early on as City were caught high. Manchester City will check on the fitness of record goalscorer Sergio Aguero and forward Raheem Sterling.
Aguero has been out for the past month with a hamstring injury and Sterling pulled out of the England squad earlier this week with a calf problem.
Captain Fernandinho, recently sidelined with a muscular injury, is now out after suffering gastroenteritis. There are also doubts over defenders Nathan Ake and Benjamin Mendy.

The Premier League has further increased the number of televised games this season from to , with over half of the extra fixtures set to be shown live on Sky Sports.
Faster goal updates. Man City were frustrated and Kevin De Bruyne emphasised that point when microphones picked up him laying into an official 15 minutes later.
Sky Sports apologised to viewers just a few moments later for any bad language that they may have heard.
Dier made successive blocks on Kevin de Bruyne to stop goalscoring chances, while also making several big headed clearances when Spurs were under pressure.
His Belgian partner was simply excellent, stepping out of the defensive line when needed, clipping some brilliant passes over the midfield to set Spurs onto the front foot and even being the instigator of the move which resulted in City have a lot of ground to catch up already, regardless of it being relatively early in the season and having a game in hand.
We are now essentially a quarter of the way through the campaign, it goes quickly - and having an extra match to play is not the same as having the points in the bag, especially taking into account some uneven recent form.
Spurs, meanwhile, go top with this three points - a full eight ahead of City, with Liverpool able to join them if they beat Leicester tomorrow.
If the Foxes take the points, City are nine off the pace. Free bet valid for 72 hours, awarded at bet settlement.

Guardiola had a response ready. Mourinho then sent on Lo Celso for the very impressive Ndombele, who looked disappointed to be brought off the pitch.
But less than a minute later the Argentine had made his impact and slotted the ball again through Ederson's legs to score. Kane was once again instrumental for the hosts, turning brilliantly from midfield and setting up Lo Celso to finish coolly.
Honours were even when Sterling was left out of the starting line-up but brought on with 20 minutes to go. By then, the row was an afterthought.
Mourinho and Guardiola had clasped hands and hugged on the touchline before the game. The phoney war was over. City dominated early possession but five minutes into the game, Tanguy Ndombele picked up the ball in midfield and drifted a simple ball to the edge of the City box.
Somehow, Son was allowed to run on to it unchallenged. He controlled it with one touch and slid it past Ederson. It was a good goal but it was way, way too easily done.
Five minutes later, City nearly equalised. Gabriel Jesus danced through the Tottenham defence and made enough space to shoot but he was denied by a superb block from Alderweireld.
To add insult to injury, Jesus was flagged offside. City thought they had drawn level midway through the half when Aymeric Laporte drilled home a sidefooted shot from 10 yards but it was correctly ruled out by VAR and on-field referee Mike Dean when replays showed Jesus had controlled the ball with the help of his arm in the build-up.
But it was yet more frustration for De Bruyne, who could not stop the goal nor initiate a response from his City team-mates.
The only blemish on the evening for Spurs was a suspected groin injury suffered by Toby Alderweireld in the latter stages.
It was a danger sign for Spurs, though. City seemed to have recovered their poise. City had most of the ball.
But they did not present the Spurs defence with enough problems. Too many of their forwards seem to have lost their mojo.
Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez always wanted one touch too many. Jesus is a fine player but he is not as ruthless as Sergio Aguero.
Who is? Sometimes, De Bruyne looks exasperated with what he sees in front of him. City tried to rid themselves of their ponderousness and De Bruyne shot just wide five minutes after half time.
An attack broke down, Spurs played the ball out of defence to Harry Kane, who was in his own half.
He turned and ran at the City defence, which was suddenly hopelessly stretched. Kane waited and timed his pass to Lo Celso to perfection.
Lo Celso took a touch and drilled his shot past Ederson. Spurs had managed two shots on target and scored two goals.
By the time Sterling and Phil Foden came on soon afterwards, it was too late and City find themselves marooned in mid-table.
Guardiola has signed his new contract. Now he has to start earning it. Mike Dean blows his whistle for full time and what a huge result that is for Tottenham, who have earned a much-deserved win over City to firmly establish themselves as title contenders.
City were dominant in the first half and enjoyed the lion's share of possession, but their pretty football did not equate to goals, and Spurs demonstrated the sort of ruthlessness in defence and attack of champions.
It was Son who opened the lead for the hosts, before second half sub Giovanni Lo Celso put the result beyond doubt.
Mourinho will be absolutely delighted with that performance, while Guardiola has plenty to ponder as his side lie 8 points adrift of the new league leaders with a game in hand.
City have a chance to get the ball in the box. Chance City! De Bruyne's delivery is superb and Dias meets with a point blank header but Lloris parries it away.
